UNDERSTANDING THE NAME
“Sidi Bernoussi” can mean the arrondissement itself, or the larger prefecture of arrondissements that includes Sidi Bernoussi and Sidi Moumen. Population figures differ sharply depending on which level is being discussed.

The Equity and Reconciliation Commission documented that 28 detainees, most of them children, died of asphyxiation in an overcrowded cell linked to the former 46th arrondissement during the June 1981 events. POLITICS & LOCAL GOVERNMENT
The arrondissement has an elected council, while the larger prefecture represents the territorial administration of the state. This guide separates those roles so residents can identify the correct office.

ECONOMY & INDUSTRY
Official Casablanca sources describe the Sidi Bernoussi industrial zone as dense, multisectoral and strategically connected to the northern motorway, the coastal road and the ports of Casablanca and Mohammedia.
A multiservice IZDIHAR center and a plastic-waste recovery unit were officially inaugurated with a combined investment reported at 36.5 million MAD, supported through the FONZID sustainable industrial-zone program.
A 2009 mobility study described roughly 50,000 workers and more than 570 production units across a little over 1,000 hectares. These are historical figures, not a current business census.
SPORTS HERITAGE & CHAMPIONS
Sidi Bernoussi is more than a football neighborhood. Its clubs, coaches, boxing gyms and community fields helped produce Morocco internationals, an amateur boxing world champion, an Olympic medalist and a WBA professional world champion with deep Bernoussi roots.
National sports media repeatedly describe Rachad Bernoussi as one of Morocco's great talent nurseries. The club rose to the top division in 1991, reached the Throne Cup final in 2007 and represented Morocco in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2008, while supplying players to Raja, Wydad and other major clubs.
Bernoussi's boxing culture is equally important. Mohammed Rabii trained through Chabab Bernoussi, and local coverage identifies the neighborhood as a long-standing boxing stronghold. Coach El Harfi El Ghazouani is repeatedly credited as a formative mentor in Rabii's rise.

SPORTS TODAY
Ten new neighborhood sports fields were inaugurated in March 2025 after a reported 6.5 million MAD investment. At the same time, Rachad Bernoussi's 2026 relegation to Amateur 1 (D4) renewed public concern about preserving the club that helped build the district's sporting identity.

The T2 line links Sidi Bernoussi Terminus with Ain Diab Plage across Casablanca. Current operator information lists first departure from Sidi Bernoussi at 05:30 and last departure at 22:30; check live service before travel.
